Philip Turbett, a past member of St Eugene’s, became the band’s first ever patron on Wednesday 25th 2006 when they unveiled their new uniform at a concert in Omagh Library.
Philip visits Omagh regularly and has many memories of playing with the band in the 1970’s after learning the clarinet initially with his father, the late Brian Turbett, and then with Jack Sorrie of the Western Education and Library Board.
On leaving Omagh in 1979 Philip studied clarinet and bassoon at Trinity College of Music for four years. He later played with some of the best orchestras in the world and travelled extensively during his career.
Philip is currently Professor of Bassoon and Chamber Music at Trinity College of Music and Manager of the English National Opera Orchestra at the Coliseum in London.
